We have accepted that buying secondhand means digging through overful, musty racks or racing strangers online.
But why can't buying used feel beautiful too?
What we do
Our story
People increasingly want to buy secondhand, but the experience often involves endless scrolling, missed messages, unreliable sellers, and uncertainty about quality.
Etc. Store exists to make buying and selling pre-loved furniture, homewares, and clothing easier. We carefully curate every item, inspect its condition, and create a shopping experience that feels thoughtful, inspiring, and trustworthy.
Because secondhand should be just as enjoyable as buying new.
Why buy secondhand?
Choosing secondhand means:
- Reducing waste
- Supporting a circular economy
- Finding unique pieces with character
- Furnishing your home more thoughtfully
- Keeping quality items in use for longer
We believe the best homes are collected over time, not purchased all at once.
Carrefully curated pieces you can buy with confidence
Every item is carefully selected, cleaned, refreshed, and prepared before it reaches the store. We want second-hand shopping to feel as enjoyable as buying new.
We inspect each piece for wear and damage, and clearly document any flaws so you know exactly what you're buying.
Our condition ratings:
⭐ Vintage/Antique – May require restoration or repair
⭐⭐ Worn but functional – Character and visible wear
⭐⭐⭐ Good pre-loved condition
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good condition – Minimal wear
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As new – New or near-new condition
What we buy
We're always looking for quality pre-loved pieces, including:
Clothing and footwear for babies, children, and adults
Furniture for every room
- Homewares, décor, and artwork
- Rugs, cushions, and throws
- Glassware, crockery, and kitchenware
- Plants and pots
- Children's toys
- Beautiful books, from coffee table favourites to treasured keepsakes
- Bedding and linen in excellent condition
We're interested in items that are well-made, well-loved, and have plenty of life left in them.
To maintain our quality standards, we generally don't accept items from ultra-fast fashion or mass-market retailers.
How selling works
Get in touch online (and soon, in-store) and tell us what you'd like to sell. If it's a good fit for Etc. Store, we'll make you an offer.
In some cases we may need to inspect items in person first, but we can usually do this when collecting your items or when you drop them off.
Once an offer is accepted, we'll pay you via bank transfer before taking the items away—freeing up space in your home and giving your pieces a second life.
Give back while you declutter
Good things deserve more than one life.
When you sell to Etc. Store, you can choose to donate a portion of your payout to a charity you care about, or let us choose one on your behalf.
Your items get a second home, you reclaim space in yours, and your sale can support a good cause at the same time.
It's a simple way to declutter, reduce waste, and give back—without the effort of selling everything yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Why should I sell to Etc. Store instead of Marketplace?
Selling privately can take time—creating listings, answering messages, negotiating prices, arranging pickups, and waiting for the right buyer.
Etc. Store offers a simpler alternative. If we're interested in your items, we'll make an offer, arrange collection or drop-off, and pay you directly.
No listings. No endless messages. No uncertainty.
What payment methods do you accept?
As a online store currently, we accept all major credit cards as well as Afterpay!
Do you buy everything?
No. We carefully curate the pieces we stock and only purchase items that align with our quality and style standards.
We're generally looking for well-made, pre-loved clothing, furniture, homewares, décor, books, and children's items with plenty of life left in them.
How do I sell my items to Etc. Store?
Simply get in touch with details and photos of the items you'd like to sell.
If they're a good fit for the store, we'll make you an offer. In some cases, we may need to inspect items in person before confirming.
How do you decide what to pay?
We consider factors such as condition, quality, brand, age, demand, and the expected resale value of an item.
Our goal is to offer a fair price while ensuring we can cover the costs of preparing, storing, marketing, and selling the item.
When do I get paid?
Once an offer has been accepted and any required inspection has been completed, payment is made via bank transfer before we take possession of the items.
Do you offer collection?
Yes, we can arrange collection for larger items such as furniture. Collection availability may depend on your location and the items involved.
What condition do items need to be in?
Items should be clean, functional, and in good overall condition.
Minor signs of wear are expected with pre-loved items, but any damage, stains, missing parts, or repairs should be disclosed when submitting items for consideration.
Do you buy furniture?
Yes. We're always interested in quality furniture that is structurally sound and suitable for another home.
Do you buy clothing?
Yes. We purchase clothing and footwear for babies, children, and adults, provided they meet our quality standards.
Can I donate items instead of selling them?
Absolutely. If you'd prefer not to receive payment, we can discuss donation options.
You can also choose to donate a portion or all of your payout to a charity of your choice.
Can I return an item?
Yes. We accept returns within 14 days of purchase, provided the item is returned in the same condition it was sold in.
If an item was shipped outside of the Wellington region, the buyer is responsible for arranging and covering the cost of return shipping.
These rights are provided in accordance with the Consumer Guarantees Act and any other applicable New Zealand consumer protection laws.
Why buy secondhand?
Buying secondhand helps extend the life of quality items, reduces waste, and allows you to find unique pieces with character and history.
We believe good things deserve more than one life.
